Managerial risks assessment of poultry entrepreneurs in selected Municipalities of La Union
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - North La Union Campus, 2013-03) Bucsit, Aileen L.
This study was conducted to 1) determine the profile of layer industry; 2) identify the risks and determine the level of probability of occurrence and potential impact being encountered by poultry operators particularly on layer productions; 3) recommend solutions to identified risks encountered by poultry egg productions; and 4) recognize the importance of adopting strategic assessment on poultry focusing on layer productions. The data were gathered through the aid of a questionnaire from 27 registered poultry operators and 27 unregistered backyard growers who were selected using the purposive random sampling and were drawn from the six (6) selected municipalities of La Union. These were analyzed through frequency counts, average percentage, and weighted mean and statistical tool analysis. The results revealed that the majority of the respondents from the commercial and backyard growers were from the range of 31-40 years old. Majority of the respondents in the commercial were female while in the backyard growers are male. Most of the respondents in the establishments are college graduates while in the backyard growers are high school graduates. As to the layer enterprise, most of the commercial growers operated from 3 - 4 years, the same with the backyard growers. As to source of capital, most of the respondents from commercial used their personal savings as their primary capital and refer to banks for additional funds. Few of them only invested through partnership. The backyard growers mainly spend their own savings and only few through partnership with relatives and cooperative. Results also showed that most of the respondents from commercial are extremely conscious to risk assessment while backyard growers are very much conscious to risk assessment. As to the areas of risk austerity and potential impact, commercial growers faced low and with only minor potential impact. Backyard growers also realized that what they usually encounter caused them low severity but with minor to moderate impact.
