Bifurcation analysis of an intraguild predation model with constant effort harvesting
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2024-02) Barredo, Romafe E.; Mercado, Shaina Kaye G.; Tucdaan, Rica Lyn D.
This study considered a type of interaction between species where two or more species that compete for shared resources also feed each other. This type of interaction is called Intraguild Predation (IGP). A three-species IGP model which includes top and intermediate predators, termed as Intraguild (TG) predator and Intraguild (IG) prey; respectively, and a basal resource was examined. This study modified a three-species intraguild predation model by Collera (2016) by incorporating a constant effort harvesting in the basal resource. Conditions for the existence and local stability of all non-negative equilibrium points were investigated. Depending on the value of the harvesting rate, results showed five possible scenarios that will happen in the interaction. That is, extinction of at least one species and coexistence of all interacting species. Moreover, it was found out that as long as the IC prey is more efficient in consuming the basal resource than the IG predator and the harvesting rate is at minimum, persistence of all interacting species through time is possible. In addition, sufficient conditions where stability switching of equilibrium points through saddle-node bifurcations were provided. To verify the results, simulations were performed using MATLAB. Lastly, real-life implications of the results such as the conservation of species, predicting tool, sustainable development goals, and replicability of the model were discussed.
