    Influence of planting dates for cluster Onion (Allium cepa l.) 'Batanes' in Tagudin Ilocos Sur

    Cluster onion is a profitable cash crop planted after the rice cropping season in the municipality, with standing to this, planting dates influences the favourable growth and yield of the crop. Aside from this early harvest commends a higher market price ranging from Php.35.00 –Php.50.00 per kilogram. Hence this study was conducted at Brgy. San Miguel, Tagudin, Ilocos Sur from October- January 2014. The study was conducted with various planting dates as treatment which were: T1-October 1, T2-October 11, T3-October 21 and T4- October 31 following the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications The Batanes variety of cluster onion was used and planted following a distance of 20cm x 20cm. The transplants were mulched. Result of the study revealed that planting date on October 31 registered the heaviest fresh weight of onion of 2.58 kg/plot or equivalent to 3,888.88 kg/ha with a net income of Php.139,940.63 having a return on investment (ROI) of 95.37%. Early planting in the locality from October 1-11 resulted to unfavourable growth and yield of cluster onion that greatly affected the yield production and net income as well.
