Contextualization and localization of science activities in enhancing learners’ performance
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2015-03) Ballesteros, Jeffrey 0.
Localization and contextualization is a new approach to learning which is highlighted in the K to 12 Curriculum. This study determined the performance of learners using localization and contextualization approach in teaching Science. One shot pretest- posttest experimental research design was used. This study was conducted during the third quarter of the SY 2014-2015 to 37 Grade 9 learners of Capas Integrated School. It determined the respondents profile as to previous grade in Earth Science (Grades 7 & 8), learning style, and attitude towards Science. It also assessed the performance in Earth Science, difference between pretest-posttest scores, relationship between profile and Science performance and proposed enhancement activity. Findings showed that most of the respondents had a “developing” proficiency along their previous grades in Earth Science. Most of them are “tactile” learners and showed an “indifferent” attitude towards Science. After the experiment, the learners showed a significant improvement on their performance in Science.
