Design, construction and test performance of a Pili Nut Cracker
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - North La Union Campus, 2014-03) Balisong, Girlie O.
The study was conducted and tested at Department of Agricultural Engineering, DMMMSU-NLUC. Construction was done at Nagsabaran Norte, Balaoan, La Union, from October-November 2013. The principal parts of the machine are the upper plate, adjustable plate, screen, spring, hydraulic jack, shafting and the pedal. Analysis of variance was used to determine the significance between treatments. The cracking capacity, cracking recovery, and cracking efficiency are not significant irrespective of the unit sizes, while whole nut recovery and damage kernel are significant as affected by the different sizes. The highest whole nut recovery was obtained at T3 (Large) with a percentage of 96.49 % while the lowest whole nut recovery was obtained at T2 (Medium) with a percentage of 85.20%. Maximum broken kernel was obtained at T2 (Medium) with a mean of 14.80% while the minimum broken kernel was obtained at T3 (Large) with a mean of 3.52%.
