Asexual propagation of Bamboo species using culm cuttings

This study aimed to find out which of the bamboo species propagated through culm cuttings would give the best performance in terms of survival, number length and diameter of shoots produced as well as the number and length of roots produced. It was conducted at the Agroforestry Nursery of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, North La Union Campus, Bacnotan, La Union from August 24 to December 25, 2010. Two hundred culm cuttings of giant bamboo, buddha bamboo, kawayan tinik, kawayan kiling and bayog were used in the study. It was laid out using the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD). The bamboo species used in the study were as follows: T1 – Giant bamboo (Dendrocalamus asper Schult.) T2 – Buddha bamboo (Bambusa ventricosa McClure, Syn.) T3 – Kawayan tinik (Bambusa blumeana Schult.) T4 – Kawayan kiling (Bambusa vulgaris Schrad) T5 – Bayog (Dendrocalamus merrillianus Elm.)
