    Guapple industry in Bauang La Union: An assessment towards enterprise development

    This study aims to; (1) determine the demographic profile of Guapple producers; (2) determine the most preferred guapple by product;(3) determine the supports service of government to the producers of the Guapple; (4) determine the problems encountered in the production and marketing of Guapple by products; (5) develop a business plan for Guapple by product enterprise. The data were gathered trough interview with the aid of questionnaire from the 60 respondents. Majority of the respondents belong to the age ranging 30-60 years, female, Roman Catholic, married with formal education, product producers and their source of income mostly through farming. Majority of the guapple enterprise were not registered and most of them were small scale business and with a capital of Php5,000 below and firm of ownership is sole proprietorship, owned and managed by family members. Majority of them started their business and it is cited that they use their own fund to finance the business. There were four guapple by products produced by processors and farmers to generate income. These are the jam, guinataan, polvoron and tarts. The processors used some facilities like gas stove, sauce pan, blender, baking pan, oven and cup molders to make the product. The study shows that polvoron and tart were the most preferred guapple by product. The result reveals the guapple producers have a moderately serious problem on guapple pest and diseases. Recommended business plan was formulated from the findings of the study.
