    Development of a training program for competitive swimming
    (Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2026-04) Artime, Denver C.
    This study aimed to assess swimmers’ performance in terms of basic skills, speed, endurance, stroke efficiency, and consistency; identify the challenges encountered during training and competition; examine the relationship between swimmers' profiles and performance; and develop a sustainable training program for swimmers. A descriptive quantitative research design was employed involving 61 competitive swimmers from Ilocos Sur and 20 expert validators. Data were gathered using validated questionnaires and performance measures, and analyzed using percentages, medians, and Somers' test. Results showed that most respondents were early-adolescent swimmers with limited competitive experience and normal BMI. Swimmers generally remained at the developmental level, with underdeveloped basic skills and emerging stroke efficiency, while freestyle demonstrated relatively better performance compared to other strokes. Facilities and equipment were perceived as adequate, but administrative support and training structure were only moderate. Performance was primarily influenced by stroke-specific skills, competitive exposure, and sex. Based on the findings, a proposed swimming training program was developed to support long-term athlete development.
