    Assessment of Beekeeping technology adoption in Ilocos Sur

    The study was conducted to assess the level of beekeeping technology adoption in Ilocos Sur, specifically to (1) determine the demographic profile of the respondents; (2) determine the level of adoption of beekeeping technology; and (3) identify the problems encountered in the adoption of beekeeping technology. Total enumeration were used in the gather the data from beekeepers in 8 municipalities of Ilocos Sur, through interview with the aid of questionnaire. Descriptive statistical tool such as frequency count, percentage, weighted mean and rank were used to analyze the level of adoption. The findings revealed the mean age of trainees/respondents were 39 year old, 87% males 56% college graduates and 44% were farmers. All of the respondents attended 5 Day Basic Beekeeping Training from 2011-2015. NARTDI was the respondent’s main source of information on the beekeeping trainings offered by DMMMSU. Thirty six of the respondent’s purpose of attending is to earn an additional income, to gain knowledge on beekeeping, as complimentary farm enterprise, went abroad purpose and as a hobby. The respondents fully adopted the proper apiary management practices such as the apiary provision of assistance to honeybee colonies and migration. However, the respondents partially adopted brood rearing techniques. Queen rearing practice and recommended hive product harvesting processes were not adopted by the respondents.
