Item Sanitation practices of wet markets in the First District of La Union(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – North La Union Campus, 2017-05) Abat, Rachel M.; Andrada, Jacklyn C.; Ngilangil, Leonora E.; Vilar, Desiree A.; Lucena, Jomar J.Sanitation issues are a major concern in many workplaces because they contribute to health problems among employees, customers and others. This study aimed to determine the sanitation practices of the wet markets in the first district of La Union. Descriptive survey method of research was used through the aid of questionnaire and supplemented by interview and observation. Two hundred fifty (250) vendors and nine (9) administrators were selected as respondents, using stratified random sampling and purposive sampling, respectively. Frequency counts, percentages and means were used in the analysis of data. The research shows that vendors are very much aware on sanitation practices employed in the wet markets and have highly adopted it. The availability of sanitary facilities was noted. However, there is a slightly serious problem on the inadequacy of water supply.Publication Water quality assessment of Bauang river in La Union(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - North La Union Campus, 2008-03) Andrada, Jacklyn C.This study was conducted to assess the water quality of the river in Bauang, La Union using physical, chemical and microbiological parameters. This study was conducted from August 2007 to January 2008. Using composite method, three samples were obtained from each sampling site for three sampling periods. Analysis of water quality parameters was done on-site and in laboratory. Results were compared to the existing standards for freshwater quality set by DENR Administrative Order No. 34-90. In general, Bauang River has a temperature of 29.49 0C, light transparency of 135.11 cm deep, pH value of 8.35, DO concentration of 7.40, 8.44 mg/L of total suspended solids and positive of E. coli and total coliform. Regressive analysis shows significant relationships exist between the following quality parameters: temperature and DO; temperature and TSS; light transparency and TSS; and pH and DO. Significant relationships exist between the following water quality parameters: temperature and DO; temperature and TSS; light transparency and TSS; and pH and DO. Using the two-way ANOVA, temperature showed no significant differences with the sampling sites and sampling periods. Light transparency has a significant difference with the sampling period. pH is significantly different at each sampling sites and sampling periods. DO have a significant difference in terms of period of sampling. Total suspended solids also showed significant difference at each sampling period. The physical and chemical characteristics of Bauang River vary spatially and temporally. Generally, Bauang River conforms to the existing quality standards, which implies fitness for its intended use.
