Utilization of banana (Musa acuminata) stalk as liquid fertilizer for the growth and yield of pechay (Brassica pekinensis linn.)
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - North La Union Campus, 2017-05) Andrada, April Mae
Once harvested, banana particularly the stalk are discarded as wastes. In this study, it aimed to utilize banana stalk as liquid fertilizer on the growth and yield of pechay (Brassica pekinensis Linn.). The experimental research was used following the Complete Randomized Design. There were four treatments for the liquid fertilizer and one control (water) — three (3) pots per treatment arranged in three replications—for a total of forty five (45) pots. The liquid fertilizer was revealed to have low NPK levels. After treatment, the soil showed an increase in potassium composition and electrical conductivity while the available organic matter decreased. The application of liquid fertilizer has increased the pH of the soil making it slightly basic. Results also showed that the addition of liquid fertilizer has positive effects on the growth and yield of pechay, but with no significant difference with pure water.
