Shorthand skills difficulties of BSOA students in DMMMSU

This study determined the level of performance and level of difficulties in terms of reading, writing, and transcribing shorthand of BSOA students at Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, Mid La Union Campus. The researchers used a quantitative descriptive-correlation research method. Data were gathered from 210 BSOA students. Level of shorthand performance were analyzed using statistical techniques such as frequency counts, and percentages; the level of shorthand difficulties was analyzed using the Likert scale, and the significant relationship was analyzed using the Kendall-Tau Test. The findings of the study revealed that the level of performance of the BSOA students in STEN 101 has a descriptive equivalent of good and a descriptive equivalent of satisfactory in STEN 102. The level of shorthand difficulty of the BSOA students has an overall median of 3 with a descriptive equivalent of moderately difficult. Moreover, the level of performance and the level of difficulty in shorthand were found to have a significant relationship. In response, the researchers established an adaptive skill training program to improve and address these difficulties.
