    Effectiveness of water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) in the purification of piggery wastewater

    Wastewater contributes pollution and damages environment when not treated properly. The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) in the purification of piggery waste. The study was conducted at Baroro, Bacnotan, La Union. Wastewater were gathered at DPERF and subjected to analysis at the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office No. 1, DMMMSU – MLU Campus, San Fernando City before treatment and were analysed again after treatment at The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources – National Integrated Fisheries Technology Development Center. Using observational research, wastewater sample were treated with water hyacinth. The initial values on parameters analysed changed after treatment particularly in color, odor and pH.
