Lakasa ti Sirib, DMMMSU Institutional Repository.https://lakasa.dmmmsu.edu.ph/handle/123456789/1722Parasites reduce productivity of chickens thus, a need to identify the species of gastrointestinal parasites and their prevalence to effectively implement parasite control program for native chickens. This study was conducted to: (a) identify the gastrointestinal (GI) parasites affecting Philippine native chicken in hilly, coastal and lowland areas of La Union; (b) determine the prevalence rate of GI parasites affecting Philippine native chickens in La Union; and (c) determine the significant difference in the Egg Per Gram (E.P.G.) count of GI parasites affecting Philippine native chicken in La Union considering topography (hilly, coastal and lowland) and age (young and mature). Fecal samples were collected from 10 heads each of young and mature Philippine native chickens in four municipalities from each area. The modified McMaster method was used to examine the fecal samples. The Two-Factor Analysis of Variance was used to analyze the data. Three species of gastrointestinal parasites were identified affecting Philippine native chicken in La Union to include Ascaridia ssp., Capillaaria ssp., and Heterakis ssp. There was a 100 percent prevalence of gastrointestinal (GI) parasites regardless of species. Mean E.P.G. count of GI parasites is similar between topographic locations and between ages of birds.en-USIdentification of gastrointestinal parasites affecting philippine native chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus) in La UnionThesis
