The data were drawn from the 180 respondents who were selected using purposive random sampling with the aid of a survey questionnaire. The descriptive statistical tools such as frequency, percentage, weighted mean and average were used in the analysis. Most of the respondents were female, married, had 3 dependents with formal education, had average age of 33 years for retailers and 40.17 years for consumers. Results showed that the respondents were very much aware of the presence of imported agricultural products in the local market, the stiff competition posed by locally produced products and the membership of the country in global trade organization like WTO-GATT. The retailers and consumers preferred the imported than the locally produced onions and garlic. The imported products were preferred based on the color, size, and grade, packaging considerations, which were rated as very much acceptable. The positive effect of importation which were perceived to have much effect include: enhancement of domestic competitiveness; involvement of more participants in the marketing channels thus generating more employment; strengthened government intervention in setting safety nets for price; and, stability of market price. The negative effects which were considered to have much impact in the industry were: decrease in farm income; lessened bargaining power of farmers; rise in domestic price; reduction in dependency to existing market; reduction in the competitiveness of Philippine products; decrease productivity in agriculture as the industry suffers from low economic scales; and, inability to maintain the country’s share in the world market The problems encountered by the consumer and retailers that were rated very much serious were, high in price, assorted with mixed spoiled products, time consuming in reclassification, and easily spoiled and poor quality of their products.en-USPerceived effect of important of Onion (Alliuum cepa) and Garlic (Allium sativum) on consumers behaviorsThesis
